Greens Mark and Paul won the two County Council seats in Tonbridge with a 52% swing from the Conservatives, with a turnout of 45%, which is up 12%, from 33%, in 2017.
"We are humbled by the mandate given to us as new Green County Councillors following the recent election in the Tonbridge Division," said Paul Stepto and Mark Hood in a joint statement. "We would like to thank our predecessors, Richard Long and Michael Payne, for the dignified way that that have conducted themselves and their campaign throughout. We acknowledge that a significant number of residents voted for other candidates and we are committed to representing every resident to the best of our abilities, irrespective of who they supported.
"We also want to extend our sincere thanks to Tonbridge LibDems for making the incredibly difficult decision not to stand in this election.
"We are committed to listening to residents and putting their interests at the heart of our decision-making in the coming years.
"We would like to send thanks to every member of our team who has delivered leaflets and door-knocked, to those that have put up posters and allowed us to place garden boards at their homes. We could not have done this without you! It has been a grassroots campaign and we are incredibly proud of everyone who has played a part.
"We have really enjoyed meeting residents across the whole of Tonbridge over the past few weeks and we pledge to do our best to have a positive impact on the town we call home. Thank you."
For those keeping count, Mark received 6,346 of the total 23,437 votes (27%), while Paul received 5,424 (23%).
